A woman in China during the One Child Policy tries to keep a second pregnancy. Twenty years later, a Chinese adoptee in Post-Roe Texas tries to get an abortion.
Their stories are more related than they seem.
WHY THIS STORY?
With Blessing is a pro-choice short film which juxtaposes two historically distinct but increasingly similar instances of reproductive control. With the recent expansion of abortion restrictions throughout the US following the fall of Roe v. Wade, now is an essential moment to engage in conversations about the value of abortion access and the pain that comes when reproductive healthcare is restricted.
We believe this story contextualizes the conversation about abortion access in a unique way, featuring an adoptee's unique relationship to the deeply personal decision of keeping or terminating a pregnancy. On the other side, we see a woman fighting a symmetrical fight - the ordeals she must undertake to keep her pregnancy. As the juxtaposition implies, the struggle is the same: a fight to be free to make their own, personal choice.

NEIL REDFIELD (Writer/Director) is an actor and writer hailing from San Antonio, TX. His first short film, Before (writer, actor, producer), had a successful festival run and was an official selection at Chelsea Film Festival. He has acted Off-Broadway and regionally, as well as appearing on The Gilded Age.
“With Blessing” will be his first film as a director.
